We had a great time at our at our First Annual Tree Lighting Event on Friday Night December 1st, 2012 in our courtyard at The Morris House and M Restaurant! The tree looked amazing and we were joined by so many friends, families and even a few famous celebrities. Our celebrities included founding father, Benjamin Franklin and our nation’s flag creator, Betsy Ross!
Benjamin Franklin is one of our nation’s most notable founding fathers. During his time he was a leading author, politician, scientist, inventor, statesman, and diplomat. He was nicknamed “The First American” because of his push for colonial unity. Living not far from the Morris-Reynolds house he would often walk past to get to where he needed to be. Franklin is also known for the creation of electricity so I am sure that he will appreciate our tree lighting honoring his discovery of electricity.
Betsy Ross is credited as being the maker of the first American flag. Ross was also responsible for embroidering Washington’s ruffled shirts and other sewing projects that this former president and army commander needed.
These two notable Philadelphian’s lived within blocks of the Morris House Hotel and walked the very streets that surround it back in the 1700’s. We hope you can visit The Morris House or M Restaurant this season so that you can experience a little of Philadelphia’s history and see our glorious holiday tree, which so many others enjoyed Friday during the Tree Lighting!
History and luxury combine at the Morris House Hotel. Built in 1787, the Morris House is a National Historic Landmark that has been renovated into one of Philadelphia’s finest luxury boutique hotels. Morris House Hotel is located 225 South 8th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19106.

We live in the neighborhood and brought a group of friends to this event on Saturday and were treated to the best home made hot chocolate ever, and ridiculously delicious ginger snap cookies!!!!! ( We were told were made by Danielle, the manager). The night was warmer than it should have been for December, and with their outdoor heaters, the courtyard was filled with excited children running around and many happy adults too! What a nice idea it was to bring the neighborhood together and to begin a tradition for all of us to look forward to!!
Watching Rob transform a huge block of ice into a full sized Nutcracker was an incredible sight to see. He is a true artist with his chain saw, and it was a lot of fun to see it all happen right before our eyes!!
I have to say that the tree in the courtyard, once it was lit, was magnificent and it brought loud gasps and cheers from us all once the switch was flipped. Thank you M for a beautiful evening! My husband and I sure impressed our friends, that’s for sure, and we all will be back for dinner this holiday season!!
So glad that you, your husband, and your friends had a good time at our event! The courtyard truly was a sight to see, and you are right Rob was incredible! We look forward to having you in for dinner soon & Happy Holidays!
